As part of the exhibition Zurich: Dialogues on Densification, co-curated by Jonathan Sergison and Tom Avermaete, this second guided tour and roundtable bring together a number of experts to debate the perennial Housing question in Zurich’s current context.

As with any city, Zurich’s need to absorb a growing population brings up challenges that cover all forms of public service and amenity. Housing represents any city’s largest built component, both in terms of volume and surface covered, and its provision is essential, particularly in times of demographic change. As density is invariably measured in relation to the number of people inhabiting buildings, the ‘Housing Question’ remains a key consideration in programmes of urban densification.  

This event invites the panel to respond to the advocacies formulated in the exhibition and accompanying publications. The conversation will address the way Zurich housing has historically reflected the evolution of urban codes and consider how these need to adapt now, to ensure the qualitative densification of the future city.
