Tendenzen at 50 – Preserving Culture: A Roundtable on Heritage and the Archive

18:00 Exhibition tour by Irina Davidovici and Frida Grahn.
18:30 Panel discussion with Tom Avermaete (gta, ETH Zurich), Silke Langenberg (IDB, ETH Zurich), Nicola Navone (Archivio del Moderno, USI), and Regula Steinmann (Schweizer Heimatschutz). Moderated by Irina Davidovici and Frida Grahn.
50 years after being featured in the Tendenzen exhibition and gaining international acclaim in its aftermath, the Ticinese architecture of the 1960s and 1970s illustrates the wide range of attitudes towards the built heritage of the period. In the exhibition, the photography of Stefano Graziani shows how some projects are protected and lovingly preserved, while others fall victim to neglect or insensitive restoration. This fate is mirrored by the life of architectural documents, some of which are conserved in archives, while others are forever lost or simply disposed of, their value unnoticed. This roundtable discusses the preservation of the architectural culture of the 1960s and 1970s, both as built and as committed to paper.
