Jürg Conzett & Eugen Brühwiler | Baukultur in Swiss transportation infrastructure: bridges, landscapes and structural art
After developing a deeper understanding of Baukultur roots in the different European countries, the Seminar Series of the National Research Programme «Baukultur» (NRP 81) is dedicated to “themes” and “periods” that have characterised the Swiss practice and debate.
In Switzerland, with its mountainous topography, a distinctive Baukultur of infrastructure construction emerged during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Roads, railways, and eventually motorways required the construction of countless bridges across challenging terrain and within spectacular landscapes. Engineers Jürg Conzett and Eugen Brühwiler dig deep in the genealogy of Swiss structural Baukultur – many of these built structures form today an integral part of Switzerland’s built cultural heritage.
The session will be held in presence and online.
