Biennale svizzera del territorio 2026 | Handle with Care | Opening
Dal 1° al 3 ottobre, la biennale svizzera del territorio torna con la sua sesta edizione, diffusa tra Lugano, Mendrisio e Bellinzona, con fulcro a Villa Saroli. L'evento, organizzato da Istituto Internazionale di Architettura sotto la direzione dell’architetta Ludovica Molo, riunisce progettisti/e emergenti selezionati/e da un comitato internazionale, conferenze, tavole rotonde, una passeggiata urbana e attività partecipative aperte al pubblico.
Il titolo "Handle with Care" invita a riflettere sull'urgenza di un'architettura responsabile, incentrata sulla cura, che ripara, mantiene e rigenera, attraverso l'ascolto dei luoghi e del preesistente e il coinvolgimento delle comunità. Un'alternativa complessa alla via più facile del demolire e costruire, canoni di un'architettura di consumo del territorio e delle risorse.
Giovedì 1° ottobre — conferenza di apertura all'Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio: una serata di dibattito interno al mondo dell’architettura e della progettazione, dedicata ai valori di responsabilità politica e civile della disciplina, su temi fondamentali quali l’abitare, il riuso e la partecipazione della cittadinanza.
Venerdì 2 ottobre — a Bellinzona, in collaborazione con il Dipartimento del territorio e la Città di Bellinzona, la giornata si apre con una passeggiata urbana nei luoghi che più rappresentano la trasformazione della città, dalle frange industriali agli spazi pubblici, dalle aree di rinaturazione ai nuovi poli abitativi e scolastici. A seguire presso l’Istituto di Ricerca in Biomedicina (IRB) l’apertura del simposio. Questa giornata propone una riflessione sulla vocazione di un territorio particolare, ponte fra nord e sud Europa, collocato tra la metropoli lombarda e il resto della Svizzera, caratterizzato da dinamiche complesse ed equilibri fragili. Due tavole rotonde per interrogarsi su queste condizioni, immaginare la vocazione futura del territorio e individuare gli strumenti con cui agire nel presente.
La sera, inaugurazione dei progetti nel parco di Villa Saroli. Nel parco della Villa saranno svelate le 10 installazioni selezionate dalla Call for Action che resteranno visibili al pubblico fino al 28 novembre.
Sabato 3 ottobre — il simposio si sposta a Lugano, tra il Consolato Generale d'Italia e Villa Saroli, per una giornata dedicata al tema del "care" con relatori e relatrici internazionali, lecture, case study e le presentazioni della Call for Pecha Kucha. La serata si chiude a Villa Saroli con momenti performativi e un momento conviviale.
Tre giornate intense in cui Villa Saroli si trasforma in un laboratorio aperto, animato da atelier, installazioni e appuntamenti diffusi — un'occasione per sperimentare la cura del territorio attraverso l'incontro e lo scambio. Tutte le attività sono gratuite e aperte al pubblico.

From 1 to 3 October, the biennale svizzera del territorio returns for its sixth edition, centred at Villa Saroli and spread across Lugano, Mendrisio and Bellinzona. The event is organised by Istituto Internazionale di Architettura under the direction of architect Ludovica Molo, and brings together emerging architects selected by an international committee, conferences, round tables, an urban walk and participatory activities open to the public.
The title "Handle with Care" is a timely invitation to reflect on the urgency of a responsible architecture centred on care – one that repairs, maintains and regenerates through attuned listening to places and to the pre-existing, and through community engagement. A complex alternative to the easier path of demolition and construction, hallmarks of an architecture that consumes territory and resources.
Thursday 1 October opens with a conference at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio – an evening of debate within the architecture and design community, dedicated to the values of political and civic responsibility within the discipline, addressing fundamental topics such as housing, reuse and citizen participation.
Friday 2 October, organised in collaboration with the Canton Ticino Department of Territory and the City of Bellinzona, opens with an urban walk through the places that best represent the city's transformation – from industrial fringes to public spaces, from rewilding areas to new residential and school hubs. This is followed by the opening of the Symposium at the Institute of Research in Biomedicine (IRB). This day offers a reflection on the vocation of a distinctive territory: a bridge between northern and southern Europe, situated between the Lombardy metropolis and the rest of Switzerland, marked by complex dynamics and fragile balances. Two round tables invite participants to interrogate these conditions, imagine the future vocation of the territory and identify the tools with which to act in the present.
In the evening, the projects in the park of Villa Saroli are officially inaugurated. The 10 installations selected through the Call for Action are unveiled and will remain on view to the public until 28 November.
Saturday 3 October, the Symposium moves to Lugano – between the Italian Consulate General and Villa Saroli – for a day dedicated to the theme of care, with the participation of international speakers. Lectures, case studies and the presentations of the Call for Pecha Kucha alternate throughout the day. The evening concludes at Villa Saroli, where the installations are activated through performative moments, followed by an open convivial gathering.
Three intense days in which Villa Saroli becomes an open laboratory, animated by ateliers, installations and events spread across the territory – an opportunity to experience how care for the territory also passes through the practices of encounter and exchange. All activities are free and open to the public.

Vom 1. bis 3. Oktober kehrt die biennale svizzera del territorio mit ihrer sechsten Ausgabe zurück, verteilt auf Lugano, Mendrisio und Bellinzona, mit Schwerpunkt in der Villa Saroli. Die Veranstaltung, organisiert vom Istituto Internazionale di Architettura unter der Leitung der Architektin Ludovica Molo, vereint aufstrebende, von einem internationalen Komitee ausgewählte Planer:innen, Vorträge, Podiumsdiskussionen, einen Stadtspaziergang und partizipative, öffentlich zugängliche Aktivitäten.
Der Titel «Handle with Care» lädt dazu ein, über die Dringlichkeit einer verantwortungsvollen, auf Sorge ausgerichteten Architektur nachzudenken – einer Architektur, die repariert, erhält und regeneriert, indem sie auf die Orte und das Bestehende hört und die Gemeinschaften einbindet. Eine anspruchsvolle Alternative zum einfacheren Weg des Abreissens und Neubauens, den Leitprinzipien einer Architektur des Land- und Ressourcenverbrauchs.
Donnerstag, 1. Oktober — Eröffnungskonferenz an der Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio: ein Abend der Debatte innerhalb der Architektur- und Planungswelt, gewidmet den Werten politischer und zivilgesellschaftlicher Verantwortung der Disziplin, zu grundlegenden Themen wie Wohnen, Wiederverwendung und Bürgerbeteiligung.
Freitag, 2. Oktober — in Bellinzona, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Dipartimento del territorio und der Stadt Bellinzona, beginnt der Tag mit einem Stadtspaziergang an den Orten, die den Wandel der Stadt am stärksten widerspiegeln: von industriellen Randgebieten zu öffentlichen Räumen, von Renaturierungsflächen zu neuen Wohn- und Schulquartieren. Anschliessend folgt am Istituto di Ricerca in Biomedicina (IRB) die Eröffnung des Symposiums. Dieser Tag lädt zu einer Reflexion über die Bestimmung eines besonderen Gebiets ein, einer Brücke zwischen Nord- und Südeuropa, gelegen zwischen der lombardischen Metropole und der übrigen Schweiz, geprägt von komplexen Dynamiken und fragilen Gleichgewichten. Zwei Podiumsdiskussionen hinterfragen diese Bedingungen, entwerfen die zukünftige Bestimmung des Gebiets und identifizieren die Instrumente, mit denen in der Gegenwart gehandelt werden kann.
Am Abend Eröffnung der Projekte im Park der Villa Saroli. Im Park der Villa werden die 10 im Rahmen der Call for Action ausgewählten Installationen enthüllt, die bis zum 28. November öffentlich zugänglich bleiben.

Oktober — das Symposium zieht nach Lugano um, zwischen das Generalkonsulat von Italien und die Villa Saroli, für einen Tag, der dem Thema «care» gewidmet ist, mit internationalen Referent:innen, Lectures, Fallstudien und den Präsentationen der Call for Pecha Kucha. Der Abend klingt in der Villa Saroli mit performativen Momenten und einem geselligen Beisammensein aus.
Drei intensive Tage, in denen sich die Villa Saroli in ein offenes Labor verwandelt, belebt durch Ateliers, Installationen und dezentrale Termine — eine Gelegenheit, die Sorge um das Territorium durch Begegnung und Austausch zu erleben. Alle Aktivitäten sind kostenlos und öffentlich zugänglich.
